Casa Brutal

Casa Brutal is a photo booklet of modernist buildings captured on a walk through Casablanca, Morocco.

From insurance company headquarter, a former cinema, to a football arena and the central post office, we find an array of brutalist buildings within the city. The booklet is a warm look at an architectural style that usually is celebrated for its cleanliness, hard edges and uncompromising forms. Surrounded by palm trees, blue skies and a hustling city as is Casablanca, the handheld analogue amateur photos capture a more playful, unassuming encounter with Afrobrutalism, softly scratching the surface of a much broader modernist tradition in post-independence Morocco and beyond.
